Belma Andrić, MD, MPH, FQHC Medical Director, represented the Health Care District’s C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics as “The Doctor of the Day” on February 1st where she provided care at the Legislative Clinic at the Florida State Capitol during the 2016 Legislative Session in Tallahassee.
Dr. Andrić was escorted to the House of Representatives Chamber by Florida State Rep. Dave Kerner, District 87 and staff from the Legislative Clinic. She was introduced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and warmly welcomed by members of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation.
Physicians perform an invaluable service by providing health care for members of the Florida Legislature and legislative employees. Dr. Andrić treated several patients that day, including one who needed to be transported for immediate emergency care.
“It was an honor to serve the people who serve and to see governance in action,” Dr. Andrić said. “I felt proud to be a Floridian and represent the Brumback Clinics.”
The Doctor of the Day was founded in the 1960s by a former Florida House member, Representative Walter Sackett, MD, from Miami. Representative Sackett encouraged the Florida Medical Association to bring a physician to Tallahassee each day of the regular session.
The program is administered by the Legislative Clinic. The physicians of Florida have provided this important voluntary public service each year since the program’s inception.
