March 13, 2015, West Palm Beach, FL – This week patients at the Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health, 1041 45th Street in West Palm Beach, began receiving primary care services on-site from medical personnel with the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics. The Brumback Clinics, owned and operated by the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, serve adults and children at clinics in West Palm Beach, Belle Glade, Lantana and Delray Beach, Florida. Now, an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Certified Medical Assistant and Registration Clerk with the Brumback Clinics serve Golden Center patients from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Partnering with the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics and having these services available to our patients five days a week is an important step toward achieving more effective health care interventions,” said Dr. Linda DePiano, Golden Center’s Chief Executive Officer. “Research shows that people with serious mental illnesses die, on average, 25 years earlier than the general population. This type of care integration allows for clinical providers to treat all of these conditions at the same time, resulting in decreased mortality and morbidity.”
“We are pleased to provide the Golden Center patients with improved access to quality primary care services,” said Ronald J. Wiewora, MD, MPH, FACP, FACPM, the Health Care District’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer. “This partnership with the Golden Center affords their patients a medical home that conveniently provides both mental health services and primary care under the same roof.”
The Brumback Clinics serve patients regardless of their ability to pay or whether or not they have insurance.
Services include: yearly physicals; medical evaluations and disease management; laboratory testing referrals; diabetes and hypertension screenings; mammogram referrals; nutritional assessment and referrals; specialty care referrals; adult immunizations; employment, school and U.S. Department of Transportation physicals; pharmacy services; social services; and financial counseling for eligibility determination.
“We are looking for this partnership to be a model of integration between two health care organizations; one that is proficient in primary care and the other that is proficient in mental health,” said Christopher F. Irizarry, MPA, the Health Care District’s FQHC Executive Director. “Our shared goal is for patients to receive the highest quality care in the same location.”
In June of 2013, the Health Care District began operating the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics as Federally Qualified Health Centers. Board-certified physicians, Registered Nurses, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners and Certified Medical Assistants staff the Clinics and provide primary health care services. While walk-ins are welcome, the Clinics recommend that Golden Center patients make an appointment by calling 561-966-7154.
